Ocean Way Studio B
The remarkable acoustics of Ocean Way s historic Studio B enabled each instrument to be recorded at the optimal distance and angle - and with the microphones that best captured the full frequency and dynamic range of that instrument. Three sets of stereo room mics picked up Studio B s natural ambience at various distances from the drums, and when those room sources are blended together, the range of tonal colors and spatial depth is enormous.
Discrete Recording/Mixing Technique
Sides and Miller developed a unique, multi microphone recording and mixing technique that provides unlimited flexibility. Utilizing up to 13 separate mono and stereo sound sources per instrument, this technique enables the end user to independently control and adjust each drum and cymbal within the kit from tight and dry, all the way to wide and ambient.
Mix Presets
Each drum kit has 6 “mix presets” to instantly provide balanced, record quality mixes. The mixes start dry and "in your face", and progress up to huge room sounds. Presets can be changed either as an entire kit, or, per individual drum. And because each drum and cymbal s sound sources are completely discrete, mixing options beyond the presets is limitless.
Performance
Ocean Way Drums provides 3 highly expressive maps. GM Map (General MIDI) is the standardized layout for all MIDI controllers. I-MAP is our proprietary MIDI note mapping layout for the keyboard that provides the highest level of performance variations and articulations to create incredibly expressive drum tracks that feel and sound like the real thing. The V-Drum Map has been programmed to work with Roland´s top of the line TD-20 V-Drums® electronic drum kit. A high level of real performance variations and comfortable range of positions for each drum provides for great dynamics and serious playability.
